Otago faces a diverse and complex hazardscape, including flooding, seismic events, landslides, severe weather, wildfire and coastal hazards. These hazards can affect all of us. Together we need to strengthen our collective ability to manage hazards and recover quickly from disruption.
We are reviewing the Otago Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Plan. The plan is intended to guide decision-making, investment and partnership activities across councils, iwi, emergency services, lifeline utilities, government agencies and communities so that Otago is better able to protect lives and property and recover quickly from disruptive events. It outlines our mission and objectives, how we will achieve them and how we will measure our performance.
Our mission is to strengthen the disaster resilience of Ōtākou. We will do this by managing risks and supporting everyone to be prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies. We will use the 4Rs of emergency management to guide us

The Group Plan focuses on actions within the 4Rs, as well as partnership with mana whenua, management and governance within the system, monitoring and assurance and ensuring an understanding of Otago’s hazards.
